3M Adflo blower cuts out when you move your head – check the pins and contacts

Axis Baterie · Updated:

If your 3M Adflo blower briefly cuts out when you bump it, bend over or move your head, then starts again, the cause is often not the battery but the connection between the battery and the blower unit. Bent pins, dirty or oxidised contacts and loose latches cause momentary power interruptions. Check these before you send the battery in.

How to tell a contact problem from a worn battery

SymptomLikely cause
Blower cuts out on movement or impact and comes straight backcontacts, pins or loose latches
Blower shuts off after 1–2 hours, especially on Turboworn cells – see short battery runtime
Battery won't charge after a long breakBMS lockout – see battery not charging

Step-by-step checks

  1. Switch off the blower and remove the battery. Only inspect the contacts with the power disconnected.
  2. Inspect the pins in the blower unit. Check that they are all straight, at the same height and none is pushed in deeper than the others.
  3. Inspect the battery contacts. Look for deposits, welding dust residue, burn marks or corrosion.
  4. Clean the contacts. Use a dry, lint-free cloth or a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Wait until they are completely dry.
  5. Check the latches. The battery should click firmly into place with no play. Any play when you move your head translates into momentary loss of contact.

What not to do

  • Don't force the pins straight or use tools on them with the battery inserted.
  • Don't use sandpaper or a file – you will strip the contact plating.
  • Don't apply random lubricants to the contacts – they attract dust.

If the pins in the blower unit are clearly bent or damaged, contact the unit manufacturer's service. We regenerate batteries; we don't repair blower units.

When the battery is to blame

During regeneration we also check the condition of the battery's latches and contacts. If the power interruptions are caused by play or worn contacts on the battery side, we will note this in the diagnosis before starting work. We regenerate 837640 Standard and 837631 Heavy Duty batteries with a 12-month warranty.
